What Is The Edwin Markham House?

The Edwin Markham House is a Victorian home where the famous poet Edwin Markham lived in the late 1800s. The building was moved from 8th Street in downtown San José to Country Lane on the grounds of History Park in the late 1980s. Poetry Center San José uses the historic home as its poetry headquarters. The newly refirbished home was dedicated in 2002 with a ceremony led by Dana Gioia, chair of the NEA, Bay Area poets Jack & Adelle Foley, and Francisco X. Alarcon, a California Poet Laureate nominee.
