Library, Reading Room & Resource Room
The Edwin Markham House contains reference books, and a growing
selection of poetry books highlighting California poets and readers who
have appeared at Poetry Center San José in the past twenty-five years.
This library is located on the second floor of the house, and features
small press publications and magazines. The second floor also has a
reading and writing room which contains a collection of haiku and
haiku-related books presented by the Yuki Teikei Haiku Society, whose
members have use of the library for reference and meetings. Markham's
own library collection waits to be catalogued. Downstairs a resource
room contains Markham's original bookcase, now holding poetry books for
children - classics, new publications, and reference books for teachers
interested in teaching poetry to their classes. This section has a
television, DVDs, and magnetic boards for individual poetry writing.
The children's library was made possible by a grant from Air Systems
Foundation, Inc., and our members who have donated well over 500 books.
However, the library still needs more books; we ask that you go through
your own library and set aside what you can spare for us.
