Our Feature: Chris Locsin!

Chris Locsin has been an arts advocate for over 20 years, starting with performing and promoting live music in downtown San Jose with his 9-piece hip hop band, Bambu, in the early 2000s.  As an emcee and poet, he has performed across the country and Canada and competed in 4 national poetry slams.  In 2012, he chaired the San Jose Slam Committee, a group that organizes and promotes slam poetry in San Jose.  He then became a part of the 4th class of the Multicultural Arts Leadership Initiative (MALI), centered in the Mexican Heritage Plaza School of Arts and Culture in East Side San Jose.  Through MALI, he applied for and received a grant to produce the AAPI spoken word feature event called Slam and Rice.   He is currently a board member for Chopsticks Alley Art, a non-profit organization that promotes Southeast Asian cultural heritage through the arts.   His writing focus is on family and culture, specifically his AAPI mixed background.  He has 3 daughters and makes bomb fried rice.

Poetry Center San José's mission is to nurture and promote diverse literary expression in our community as a means of exploring, defining, and enriching the human experience. For those under 18 years of age who may be attending, we recommend that a parent/legal guardian be with you during the program.
